Somewhere in Crave Entertainment’s product catalogue for 2006, alongside licensed games and oddities, sat a Game Boy Advance cartridge containing the complete text of the Bible. The Holy Bible: World English Bible was developed by Rainbow Missions and had progressed far enough through production for cover art to be created and a November 2006 release date to appear on 505 Games’ UK catalogue — listed, in what appears to have been an internal joke, under the “action” category. Then, for reasons that have never been officially explained, it was cancelled.
The content is exactly what it sounds like: the full text of the Bible in the World English Bible translation, readable on a GBA screen with scrolling and bookmarking functionality. Not a game, not a quiz — just the scriptures, formatted for a handheld. The prototype was discovered and preserved by Forest of Illusion in April 2023, making it publicly available for the first time since it vanished from release schedules nearly two decades ago.
As a collector’s item it occupies its own unique corner of GBA history: a software product that was completely finished, commercially scheduled, and simply never shipped. It’s a genuine curiosity — the kind of thing that makes you wonder what the GBA section at a Christian bookshop in late 2006 might have looked like.
