Yoshi’s Story Tech Demo – Nintendo’s Leaked GBA Hardware Showcase on Cartridge
Before the Game Boy Advance launched, Nintendo built internal tech demos to showcase what the hardware could do. This is one of them — a Yoshi’s Story demo, commonly known as “Yoshi Demo,” created to demonstrate the GBA’s graphical and gameplay capabilities using assets and style drawn directly from the 1997 Nintendo 64 title.
The demo is a single never-ending level filled with Yoshi’s Story-themed elements: familiar enemies, visual style, and gameplay mechanics all faithful to the N64 original, rendered on GBA hardware to show what the system was capable of. It also features a variant of the Toady enemy that never appeared in any released game — attacking by dropping spiked balls and 5-ton weights onto the player — making it a genuinely unique piece of Nintendo development history.
The demo remained largely unknown for years until ROMs leaked online, finally making it accessible to collectors and Nintendo history enthusiasts. This cartridge puts it on real GBA hardware for the first time in a physical format.
⚠️ Note: This is a tech demo — not a full game. It contains a single, non-ending level and is sold as a collector’s piece and gaming history artefact.

  1. Ben

was missing some of the original small bosses. And no extra mother brain fight. it did have the little creatures but they just were part of the background. Still i had to save them in the end
