What if the Mushroom Kingdom ran on the Pokémon Emerald engine? Super Mariomon — developed by Kobazco and team, commissioned and sponsored by content creator Alpharad — answers that question with a full Pokémon Emerald hack that replaces the entire roster with over 150 custom-designed Mariomon drawn from across the Mario franchise. Goombas, Koopas, Chain Chomps, Bowser, Luigi, and dozens more have all been rebuilt as collectible, battlable Mariomon with their own unique move sets, type matchups, and stat distributions.
The Mariodex is the centrepiece: a completely reworked Pokédex-equivalent featuring Mario characters in roles that range from the expected to the genuinely surprising. The underlying Pokémon Emerald gameplay — turn-based battles, type advantages, training, and a story-driven adventure — remains intact, but every visual element has been overhauled with custom sprites and Mario-universe aesthetics that make the crossover feel far more cohesive than a simple reskin.
Alpharad’s Twitch streams of development builds generated enormous buzz before the April 2025 release, showcasing the hack’s unpredictable item interactions and the comedic chaos of watching Mario characters fight with Pokémon move logic.
