Sonic Adventure 7 – The Bootleg Sonic Game That Proudly Skipped Quality Control
Sonic Adventure 7 is a pirate GBC game that answers a question nobody asked: what if someone made a Sonic platformer for Game Boy Color, borrowed the Sonic Adventure logo for the title screen, used an abridged Sonic & Knuckles intro animation, recolored everything in neon, and then shipped it? The answer, it turns out, is this cartridge.
It’s a Sonic game in the broadest sense. Sonic runs. He jumps. There are rings. There are enemies. Beyond that, the relationship with official Sonic physics becomes strained. Sonic has two speeds — walk and run — and his Spin Dash works only some of the time. His jumping spin attack requires landing directly on top of enemies rather than hitting them from the side. The invincibility boxes scattered through levels do not make Sonic invincible. When he loses rings, they vanish rather than scattering. Knuckles appears in the intro and is then never seen again.
This is the authentic unlicensed GBC Sonic experience at its most unfiltered — a collector’s item for bootleg game enthusiasts, a talking point for anyone who appreciates the chaotic creativity of the unlicensed market, and a genuinely rare find that turns up on eBay only occasionally.
