Before Pikachu became the face of Pokémon, Clefairy was the frontrunner — appearing as Red’s chosen starter in the original Pocket Monsters manga. When leaks and community trivia brought that history back into the spotlight, one question emerged naturally: what would Pokémon Pink have actually looked like?
Created by JcFerggy and built on the Pokémon Yellow disassembly, Pokémon Pink Version: Special Clefairy Edition imagines exactly that. Clefairy replaces Pikachu as your starter and companion, with a custom animated title screen, Clefairy emotion portraits, all overworld follow sprites redrawn, and palettes reworked throughout the game to reflect a pink aesthetic drawing from Pokémon Red’s color schemes. The result plays like a proper companion to Pokémon Yellow — carefully crafted, vanilla-respectful, and built to feel like something Nintendo could have actually shipped.
Wild encounter tables have been reworked throughout Kanto to reference Pokémon seen in the Pocket Monsters manga, including version-paired swaps like Sandshrew/Ekans, Drowzee/Mr. Mime, and Growlithe/Vulpix. Gym Leader and Elite Four teams reflect their manga counterparts. New story events add trainers Blue and Yellow from the manga at points fitting their storyline. Mewtwo has been replaced with the Virtual Console Event Mew. Clefairy’s learnset has been reworked to match Pikachu’s progression — including Surf, unlocking the Surfing mini-game. A Linking Cable can be purchased at the Celadon Department Store for trade evolutions. In-game trades have been fully reworked with new Pokémon and names.
