In 1999, Nintendo and Jupiter announced Pokémon Picross for Game Boy and Game Boy Color in Japanese gaming magazines. It looked charming, it made perfect sense — Pokémon and nonogram puzzles are a natural match — and then it simply vanished. No explanation. No cancellation announcement. No release. For over twenty years, Pokémon Picross existed only as a handful of magazine scans and unanswered questions.
Then, in September 2020, a fully playable build of the game surfaced on the internet.
This cartridge contains that rediscovered build, complete with a full English fan translation by LeonarthCG — covering the entire story, title screen, tutorials, menus, puzzle names, and even the Game Boy Printer error messages. Everything you’d need to play through this lost Pokémon game from start to finish, fully in English, on real Game Boy hardware.
The nonogram gameplay — also known as Picross or nonograms — tasks you with solving grid-based logic puzzles using number clues to reveal hidden pixel images of your favourite Pokémon. The puzzles are accessible even without a translation for players already familiar with nonogram rules, but the English patch makes the full story and menus completely legible.
This is one of the most unique items in the store — not a hack, not a bootleg, but a genuine lost Nintendo game finally given the physical release it never had.
