Moemon Star Emerald by Axcellerator is a comprehensive overhaul of Pokémon Emerald built around one of the ROM hacking community’s most beloved concepts: replacing every Pokémon sprite with hand-drawn anime-style “Moemon” characters. Version 1.1c takes that foundation and builds an entirely new game around it — one that goes well beyond a simple sprite swap and into the territory of a genuinely expanded Pokémon experience.
The Moemon roster spans over 800 entries across all generations, including representation from Gen 8 and Gen 9, each with updated custom sprites. Battle mechanics have been brought forward to Gen 7, with the physical/special split fully implemented and a selection of later-generation moves included. Mega Evolutions are available, no Pokémon require trading to evolve, and HM slaves are a thing of the past — field moves have been replaced with items, freeing up your team slots entirely.
The quality-of-life improvements stack up quickly from there: reusable TMs, Apricorn-based Poké Ball crafting including new ball types, Hidden Grottos to discover, new Move Tutors and an Egg Moves Tutor in Lilycove City, uncapped Vitamins, improved EV training, and a password system for special events. Trainer teams and movesets have been reworked throughout, and optional level caps let you dial in your preferred difficulty. Custom maps and fresh rival encounters give the Hoenn region a different shape than the original.
A handful of Moemon also carry new typings — Bayleef and Meganium become Grass/Fairy, Feraligatr shifts to Water/Dark, and Goodra picks up Dragon/Poison — small changes that add a fresh dimension to familiar matchups.
