Metroid Spooky Mission v1.2 – The Halloween Zero Mission Hack That Won MetConst 2017
Imago has infiltrated a massive space pumpkin and sealed off every entrance. Halloween itself is under threat. Legend speaks of three Holy beings — spooks — who appear in the physical realm each Halloween, and if Samus can find them, they might just be her way inside. Metroid Spooky Mission is a Zero Mission hack by MAGConst with a premise that commits fully to its seasonal absurdity and delivers a genuinely excellent non-linear Metroid experience wrapped in Halloween dressing.
The hack won the MetConst 2017 Fall Contest — a community competition that draws serious talent from the Metroid hacking scene — and the quality shows. Three large exploration areas connect through a central hub leading to a final area, with an average blind playthrough of around two hours. Linearity is absent by design: if you hit a wall, the game expects you to go somewhere else. Routes open as you gather abilities, and the structure rewards curiosity over methodical progression.
Version 1.2 is the final polished release. If you’re building a seasonal shelf or just want a Metroid hack with a sense of humour that doesn’t sacrifice the gameplay underneath it, Spooky Mission delivers both.
The store also carries its sequel, Metroid Spooky Mission 2: The Nightmare Before Christmas, for anyone who wants to continue the festive tradition.
