What if Samus never met The Baby at the end of Metroid II — and an X parasite got there first? Crocomire’s Last Stand by Roebloz answers that question by putting you in control of the SA-X itself in an alternate timeline where the X have wiped out the last of the Space Pirates and now set their sights on Crocomire, sealed in the Dissolvery behind four Security Locks.
A full redesign of the Zero Mission map built from the ground up, the hack pulls tilesets from both Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion to create an atmosphere that feels closer to Zebes than the original Chozodia. The routing is genuinely non-linear — you can collect Space Jump before the Varia Suit, grab the Plasma Beam as your second upgrade, or tackle the four Security Locks in whatever order you can manage. The hack rewards exploration and clever sequencing rather than funnelling you down a fixed path.
Crank the difficulty to CORE-X mode and major items shift locations entirely, demanding a fresh approach and unlocking distinct ending pictures — a second full run’s worth of content in a hack that already packs in around 2 hours of gameplay at standard difficulty. The SA-X player sprites are custom-built for Zero Mission, making this only the second hack ever to feature original Samus graphics in the engine. The Crocomire boss fight itself has been rebuilt to closely match the iconic Super Metroid encounter, and Fusion’s beam weapons have been ported back into the Zero Mission engine thanks to ASM work from the Metroid Construction community.
