Gamera: Daikaijuu Kuuchuu Kessen – Japan’s Giant Monster Battle Game, Now Fully in English
Released in Japan on March 3, 1995 — just eight days before the landmark film it was based on — Gamera: Daikaijuu Kuuchuu Kessen (roughly translated as Gamera: Giant Monster Midair Battle) is a rare piece of kaiju gaming history that never made it west. For nearly three decades it remained locked behind the Japanese language barrier, accessible only to the most dedicated fans. Now, thanks to a complete English translation by Stardust Crusaders (released January 2022), it’s finally fully playable in English — on this real Game Boy cartridge.
The game is a turn-based combat experience in the spirit of early RPG battlers, putting you in the shell of Gamera himself as he takes on the iconic monsters of the classic Toho and Daiei kaiju universe. Fighters can position themselves across four distinct areas of the arena, dramatically changing which attacks become available and how effective incoming blows will be — giving the combat a strategic depth that goes beyond simple button-mashing.
🦎 Face off against: Gyaos · Viras · Guiron · Super Gyaos · and ultimately Fake Gamera in a climactic final showdown
The game includes an in-screen combo list so you always know what moves are available, and a local multiplayer mode lets two players battle head-to-head by passing the Game Boy between turns — choosing from any of the game’s playable kaiju.
Also compatible with the Super Game Boy for enhanced display on a TV screen.
