Edd the Duck (Unreleased Prototype) – The Lost BBC Game Boy Game, Recovered from the 2020 Nintendo Leak
Edd the Duck was the BBC’s fluffy yellow mascot, best known as the face of BBC Children’s programming in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He had a home computer game. He had an Amiga game. And he almost had a Game Boy game — a localised UK edition that was completed, submitted, and then quietly vanished without ever reaching shelves.
This is that game. Edd the Duck for Game Boy is a British reskin of We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story — itself already a regional variant, making Edd the fifth distinct version of the same underlying game. It was developed specifically for the UK market to capitalise on the BBC character’s popularity, but was never commercially released. The final build surfaced decades later among the September 2020 Nintendo lotcheck leaks, which unearthed dozens of lost and cancelled games from the early Game Boy era.
The game plays as a platformer faithful to the We’re Back engine, now starring Edd in place of the dinosaur cast. A genuine curiosity for fans of early 90s British children’s television, Game Boy prototype collectors, and anyone fascinated by the games that almost were.
