Description:

Qi Long Zhu Z3 (Chinese: 七龍珠Z3) is a bootleg port of the Game Boy Advance game Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure developed and published by Sintax for the Game Boy Color in the 2000s. The game would be released in both Sintax’s custom Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridge shells, with the latter coming in a rectangular box similar to official Japanese GBA releases.

The game is a simplified version of the original Game Boy Advance game, specifically the Japanese version, that cuts out a lot of content. For instance, the game only ports the platforming levels from the story mode in the original game, leaving out the other modes. In addition to this, many of the levels from the original game are not present in this port, and the world map and cutscenes from the GBA game are not present in any form. Despite this, many of the mechanics from the original game are still carried over in this port.

After the Sintax logo animation, the game plays a rudimentary recreation of the intro sequence from the original GBA game before cutting to the title screen, which features a downsampled and slightly cut-off version of the logo from the Japanese version of Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure. The game immediately starts as soon as the start button is pressed on the title screen. All music and sound effects used in the game are taken from the official Game Boy Color game Lemmings & Oh No! More Lemmings.

This port contains ten levels based on levels from the story mode in Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure and features child Goku as the only playable character. The first two levels are based on the introduction level from the original game, the third and fourth levels are based on Pilaf’s Castle, the fifth, sixth, and seventh levels are based on the Muscle Tower level, the eighth and ninth levels are based on the ground portion of the Red Ribbon Army Base level, and the final level takes place in the same area as the first two levels. The end of the seventh level features the Major Metallitron mini-boss from Muscle Tower, and the final level is a boss fight against the Bear Thief, who is the first boss in Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure. Completing all ten levels displays the image of Shenron from the intro before going back to said intro.

Items can be obtained throughout the game, either by seeking them out in certain areas of a level or defeating enemies. Some of these items can improve Goku’s abilities, such as one that gives Goku a kamehameha ability (a blue teapot with a slash symbol, located in the seventh level) and one located in the eighth level (a cream-colored teapot with a diamond pattern) that extends Goku’s Ki meter, which is presented at the bottom right of the screen. Goku’s Ki meter can be extended two times with the latter item before it reaches its maximum size.
