Bust-A-Move GBA Homebrew – A Faithful Clone of Taito’s 1994 Neo-Geo Arcade Classic
Bust-A-Move — known as Puzzle Bobble in Japan — is one of the great arcade puzzle games: aim a bubble shooter, match colours, clear the screen before the ceiling descends. Taito’s 1994 Neo-Geo original set the template that dozens of sequels and clones have followed ever since. This GBA homebrew by Russ Prince is a two-month passion project built with one explicit goal: to be as faithful to that original arcade game as possible.
All 30 original arcade levels are present in single-player mode, reproduced with the layout, timing, and feel of the Neo-Geo source. For anyone who grew up feeding coins into a Bust-A-Move cabinet or playing the SNES and Game Boy ports, the core experience is intact and immediately recognisable.
What makes this homebrew stand out beyond its faithfulness is the inclusion of full GBA Link Cable multiplayer — uncommon in homebrew releases and a genuine addition to the game’s value. Two players can face off in classic Deathmatch mode, or compete in Race mode using the single-player boards to see who can clear the screen first.
As an accessible puzzle game with immediate pick-up-and-play appeal and built-in multiplayer, Bust-A-Move GBA makes an excellent gift for anyone who loves the series or arcade puzzle games in general.
