All 493 Pokémon from the first four generations are obtainable in a single playthrough — almost all of them before even reaching the Elite Four. You get the National Pokédex from the very start, so tracking your collection is effortless from day one.
Every Gym Leader, Elite Four member, and major rival now uses a full team of six Pokémon, with dramatically increased difficulty and far greater variety. New trainer battles have been added throughout — including the option to face Ethan/Lyra, Cynthia, and Steven.
Trade evolutions are completely eliminated — all Pokémon that required trading to evolve can now do so through in-game items, making this a fully self-contained experience with no second console needed.
Dozens of new scripted events bring the world to life in ways the original never attempted: an Eevee gifted by Cynthia early in the game, a Team Rocket takeover of Route 47 and the Safari Zone, a Shellder and Cloyster siege in Fuchsia City, and unique encounter sequences for every newly added legendary Pokémon.
The item economy has been completely overhauled — all TMs and evolution items are available before the Elite Four, an EXP Share is obtainable in Violet City, and unnecessary HM obstacles have been cleared to keep the adventure flowing.
A Classic mode is also available for players who prefer a purer Pokémon experience without the Pokémon stat and move edits.
