Mega Man IV for Game Boy — known in Japan as Rockman World 4 — is widely regarded as the high point of the original Game Boy Mega Man series. Its level design is inventive, its mechanics are tight, and it was the entry that introduced features which went on to become series staples. The only thing it was missing was color. Until now.
Mega Man World 4 DX is a full colorization hack by marc_max (v1.1) that transforms the original monochrome experience into a vibrant, GBC-native adventure — and goes further than just adding color, addressing some of the original game’s most frustrating technical limitations in the process.
✅ What’s new in the DX version:
The entire game has received a full color conversion, bringing Mega Man, his enemies, and every stage to life with a vivid GBC palette. Slowdowns have been removed — one of the most noticeable issues in the original, particularly during busy action sequences, is now gone entirely, delivering a significantly smoother gameplay experience. The pause screen has been redesigned in NES style for a cleaner, more classic feel. And a new toggle option for charged Mega Buster recoil lets you customize the handling to suit your playstyle.
This is Mega Man IV as it should have been — and as it was always capable of being.
