You play as Spanky, a little monkey trapped inside a witch’s tower, bouncing a ball off your head and charging it up to unleash fruit projectiles at enemies across single-screen stages. It’s charming, inventive, and surprisingly tricky — the kind of arcade-style gem that keeps pulling you back for one more run.
The original, like so many Game Boy titles of its era, was rendered entirely in shades of grey. marc_max changes that with Spanky’s Quest DX, a full GBC colorization that finally gives Spanky, the tower floors, and the parade of enemies the vivid palette they always deserved.
