Having thoroughly covered the Game Boy Color market with their unlicensed Sonic titles, Sintax brought their platform game engine to the GBA era with Sonic 3: Fighter Sonic. The name promises a fighting game. The game delivers a six-level action platformer. This is entirely on-brand for Sintax.
Built on the same shared engine powering Sintax’s other GBA platformers, the gameplay prioritizes item collection over speed — Sonic moves through levels gathering coins, treasure, and other pickups, defeating enemies by jumping on them or firing spin attacks. It doesn’t move or feel like an official Sonic game, but it runs, it has six levels, and it exists on a physical GBA cartridge — which for collectors of the Sintax catalogue is exactly the point.
