Rick Dangerous 1 – The Devious 1989 Amiga Classic, Now on Game Boy Advance
Before Tomb Raider, before Indiana Jones games, there was Rick Dangerous — the 1989 Amiga platformer-adventure that sent its square-jawed hero through Aztec temples, Egyptian tombs, and enemy fortresses packed with traps so ruthless they became legendary. Now, thanks to a faithful GBA port by Alekmaul (first released at the NEO Retro Coding Compo 2013), you can take the full original experience with you on a cartridge.
Rick’s adventure begins in the Aztec temple of a hostile tribe, and survival requires equal parts reflexes and patience. The game arms him with three tools: dynamite for blowing through walls and triggering traps (get clear fast), a big stick for jabbing enemies up close, and a gun with limited ammunition that must be used wisely — bullets often trigger traps rather than simply kill enemies, and replenishing your supply means venturing back into danger. Traps are everywhere and entirely undocumented — no hints, no instructions, just your wits and the painful process of learning what kills you.
It’s a faithful recreation of the complete original game, all features intact, running natively on GBA hardware. A perfect pick for Amiga veterans, retro computing fans, and anyone who enjoys punishingly clever level design from gaming’s golden era of home computers.
