Flashback Legends (Prototype) – The Lost GBA Sequel to Fade to Black, Preserved on Cartridge
Flashback: The Quest for Identity is one of the most acclaimed cinematic platformers of the 1990s. Its sequel, Fade to Black, brought Conrad B. Hart back in 3D. And then there was going to be Flashback Legends — a GBA title that would have continued the saga once more, sending Conrad back into action against the Morphs on portable hardware. It never happened. The developer went bankrupt, the game was shelved, and Flashback Legends simply ceased to exist as a commercial product.
This early prototype, dated June 21, 2002, is what remains. Ten levels are playable, the game is functional in both English and French, and it provides a genuine look at what a third chapter in the Flashback series could have been — Conrad doing what Conrad does: following orders, searching cells and cards, riding elevators, and occasionally charging headlong into enemies. The build is unfinished and incomplete by nature, but it plays and it’s explorable.
For fans of Flashback, Fade to Black, or 1990s cinematic platformers, this is a rare piece of lost gaming history that exists nowhere else in physical form.
⚠️ Note: Unfinished prototype — only 10 levels playable. Available in English and French only.
